Ridgefield Wildlife Refuge Engagement: Tori + Joe

Tori and Joe have such a serendipitous love story!

While Tori was in New Jersey for a work conference, A woman whom she had just met told her, “I know the perfect guy for you! You would make a great couple.” They both happened to be from Portland and upon their return home her new friend didn’t give up playing cupid. With no luck, she invited them to several group outings, hoping they would finally meet and fall in love. It just never ended up happening. Probably because meeting the love of your life wouldn’t be nearly as romantic with a group of people present. Joe is a principal and Tori is a kindergarten teacher, but at different Catholic schools. Everyone seemed to know how perfect these two would be together. Their co-workers were often commenting, “I know the perfect woman for you or I know the perfect guy for you!”. Finally, after 14 months of unsuccessful match-making by their acquaintances and friends… he called her! Without further delay, they met in the lovely Alphabet district in NW Portland for an Italian dinner at Pastini, delicious gourmet ice-cream at Salt and Straw and beautiful conversation. Her smile captivated him from the start and they’ve been inseparable ever since. They both agreed that it was love at first sight and they instantly understood what everyone had been telling them over the last year. Six months later, Joe, being the romantic and thoughtful man that he is, proposed to Tori on March 15th, the day of his parents wedding anniversary. As if that wasn’t enough to melt any woman’s heart, he also made her a photo book, which documented all of their unforgettable memories together so far.

I love the way Joe and Tori crack each other up and never stop smiling at each other. I’ve never seen two people’s faces light up the way theirs do when they are together. They are two of the sweetest and most thoughtful people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting and photographing!

Congrats you two! I’m so looking forward to photographing your stunning wedding this winter at the University of Portland.

Cathedral Park Engagement: Katie + Alex

Katie and Alex are two of the most laid-back and friendly people I’ve had the pleasure of meeting. They effortlessly put everyone around them at ease. Ten years ago their paths crossed at Nakoma Resort in California, during a sweet summer break from college. Alex, who knew he wanted to be a chef at the age of eight, was attending the culinary institute in New York and Katie was studying business at a beautiful private University in Washington state. Living on opposite sides of the country failed to come between the magnetism that sparked during their summer of love. After a year of maintaining a long distance relationship over phone calls (before the times of Skype and unlimited cell minutes), Katie took a leap of faith and moved to New York to be with Alex and the rest is history! While they shared their story with me over dinner, they laughed at the recollection of the fact that her parents didn’t hesitate to let her make that brave move. Perhaps they knew it was meant to be too! It’s truly magical to watch the way these two complement each other perfectly, balancing and bringing out the best in one another.

We couldn’t have asked for a more gorgeous evening to capture their engagement session at Cathedral Park and the St. John’s Bridge in Portland, Oregon. They brought their adorable dog Tillie and some delicious beers along for our session as well! Gotta love the couple that brings their photographer an ice cold Blue Moon to quench my thirst!

Katie and Alex are getting married at the end of August at the beautiful and rustic Camp Colton in Oregon. It is going to be such a gorgeous weekend filled with friends and family to celebrate their love for life, and each other. I am so thrilled to capture their wedding bliss!

I had such a hard time narrowing this post down to my favorites because I had so many from our session. So, I included way more than usual!

Kim + Nick: Bridal Veil Lakes Wedding

Warm, diffused sun rays streamed through a cove of trees, while everyone, especially Nick, anxiously awaited for Kim to make her way through the path of foliage and flowers. Her 1940′s vintage dress danced around her body as she gracefully and lovingly approached her groom. Layers of instruments filtered through the trees as joyous emotions and tears overcame the guests. Kim and Nick stood barefoot inside a circle of golden tipped antlers before an intimate group of their closest family and friends, to bind their love. After 10 years the day had finally arrived! It was a day filled with wonderful people, laughs, love, dancing, gratitude, a glorious sunset, a magical full moon, a gorgeous venue, and tons of fun! They say that you can tell a lot about people by the company they keep. I know this is true because with each interaction I documented and every person I met, all I could feel was true warmth, kindness, and love. Kim and Nick thank you for making me feel like a guest at your wedding. I have never had a bride pull me onto the dance floor to groove with her. I had such a blast and it was truly an honor to be a part of your magical day. I have never witnessed such a beautiful and unique ceremony as yours!

Christa + Dan Engagement

Dan and Christa’s love story is so beautiful and romantic! They even waited until the altar for their first kiss (and it was by far the best first kiss I have ever witnessed!!). The energy between this couple is so pure and strong. I am so honored to have gotten the opportunity to photograph them twice! Once for a love shoot and again for their engagement session. They are not only gorgeous, but such a blast to be around. They have so much fun together and the way he makes her smile is like nothing I have ever seen before. To a long, loving, joyous life together!

Time out to enjoy the sweetness of life!

My honey took me on a surprise birthday getaway to mid-Eastern Oregon! I have been so busy that we had to wait until three weeks after my birthday to take our trip. It was definitely worth the wait! It was so inspiring and relaxing to explore new places in Oregon. The geography here drastically changes from West to East, becoming arid, brown, and desolate. I loved driving for miles through wide open spaces of emerald wheat fields backlit by majestic mountains, while we explored all of the old-fashioned tiny towns. The wild desert sage was the best aroma I have ever smelled….ever! It just fills the air with a clean, desert sweetness and if I could bottle it up, I would! The hotel we stayed at was a very neat old historic hotel in the smallest town I have ever stayed in my life.

And… I am so excited to finally have a cute portrait of Cam and I! It’s been a long time coming and I set this baby up on self-timer outside of a very unique winery.

Love Shoot: Megan and Jean-Paul

I had the pleasure of working with Jean-Paul for years. He is the kind of guy that lives against the grain with grace. He is a unique, talented, and humorous man, who strives to live life to the fullest. He had some previous ladies in his life along those years, but none that I heard much about…. until Megan came along. When she stopped by to say hello to him during his work shift, he picked her up off of her feet and kissed her like it was their very first kiss. When they are together, the world around them stands still. The passion and intention that is always present between these two is truly amazing. They are completely at ease with one another. Megan is equally as talented, gorgeous, and wise beyond her years. She is also an incredible photographer, who aspires to publish a photography book, showcasing her travels around the U.S. They were beside themselves when faced with the reality that Megan needed to fulfill her dream and there was no room for JP in her vintage Mercedes. Enter the Toyota Dolphin! The Dolphin just happened upon them at the most perfect time. They worked non-stop for months preparing the Dolphin for their journey. I had never seen JP so excited about anything. There he was getting to embark on a whole new reality with everything that mattered and nothing that didn’t. I’m so happy that I got to capture the preface to your new lives!

Love Shoot: Christa and Dan

When he spotted her from across the room at a local event, time stood still. There she was looking stunning as usual: glowing green eyes, dressed to the nines, rocking her heels with her camera in tow as her warm smile spread throughout the room. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her and knew right then that she was the one. Filled with excitement, he went home and searched through all of his Facebook connections until he found her. There she was… those genuine, gorgeous eyes and that lovely, contagious smile. To his surprise she agreed to meet him for a few coffee dates before he headed back home to Montana for the summer. After only seeing each other a few times before his departure, they were forced to get to know one another by telephone. She had no choice but to become an avid texter, despite her distaste for it. Christa’s face never ceased to light up with excitement and awe upon every text that this Montana man sent her way. Smitten and filled with curiosity, both of them anxiously awaited his return to Portland that Autumn. That September day when they reunited, the fall wind swept them off of their feet and there was no question. It was meant to be.

Sweetness

I awoke on the morning before my departure to Costa Rica with this sweet surprise awaiting me! A dozen red roses, a decadent, dark chocolate heart-shaped truffle, a sweet little copper ring, and the most adorable letter-pressed card. I am a lucky lady! I hope that all of you get random sweet thoughtful surprises from your sweeties too!

A Change of Pace!

I am so incredibly excited and in shock! In 24 hours I will be boarding a plane to Costa Rica, marking the first international trip of my life. I finally had a reason to get a passport…. and don’t even get me started on those sorry excuses for passport photos! Yikes! Next time (in ten years that is) I will take a self-portrait. I hate to admit this because I’m exposing my bad habit of packing procrastination, but my backpack is still empty. How can I possibly for see what I am going to be in the mood to wear in a month? Yes, you heard me right, a month. I will be gone for 4 whole weeks and focusing solely on mind+body+soul rejuvenation and inspiration. Taking photos, swimming in the ocean, soaking up sun rays, work trade farming, 4 days at a festival, a hike through a cloud forest, a journey through a butterfly farm, etc. I am so looking forward to this agenda for the first time in my life! See you all in a month. xo
